בית המעצר הוא חלק ממתחם השרון הכולל עוד 3 בתי סוהר: בית הסוהר השרון, בית הסוהר אופק ובית הסוהר רימונים ומאוכלס בכ-500 עצירים ושפוטים.

בית המעצר שוכן בבניין שתוכנן על פי תפיסה מודרנית אודות שמירה על כבוד האדם של האסירים.

בית המעצר מאוכלס ברובו בעצירים שאינם שפוטים, בעצורי יום ועצורים עד תום ההליכים.

בבית המעצר ישנם שני אגפים המיועדים לאסירים ביטחוניים, באגפים אלו נכלאו אסירים בולטים מארגוני הטרור, בעבר היה כלוא בבית המעצר מרואן ברגותי, ועד יולי 2008 סמיר קונטאר.
