להלן רשימות של הכוכבים הגדולים ביותר הידועים כיום, מסודרים לפי רדיוס ומחולקים לקטגוריות לפי גלקסיה. יחידת המדידה בה נעשה שימוש היא רדיוס שמש (כ-695,700 ק"מ; 432,300 מייל).

שימו לב שישנן דרכים רבות למדוד את רדיוס הכוכב. הראשונה היא על ידי מדידת הקוטר הזוויתי של הכוכב בשמיים ושילובו עם המרחק כדי להפיק ערך לקוטר (כפול מהרדיוס). השנייה היא על ידי ידיעת הטמפרטורה והבהירות שלו ושימוש בחוק סטפן-בולצמן. לכוכבים רבים יש אי-ודאויות בקוטר, ורק מעט כוכבים של ענקים אדומים ועל-ענקים קרובים ניתנים למדידה ישירה בשיטה הראשונה.

תאוריית האבולוציה הכוכבית מציעה גם כי מעט כוכבים יכולים להיות בעלי רדיוסים העולים על 1,500 עד 2,000 רדיוסי שמש.[1]
